What is newborn photography?

Styles of Liverpool newborn photography

Some Liverpool newborn photographers prefer to wrap the baby and set a scene with props, baskets, headbands and other newborn type additions.

But here at Rycraft Studios in Birkdale, we prefer to have a more natural look to the newborn images.  We’ll use a small amount of props, but our focus is your beautiful baby and his or her reactions to this new world.  So always bring a few sets of clothing you would like to see them in, maybe a teddy that special to you.  We don’t tend to shoot the very wrapped staged images but will loosely wrap them as these shots feel far more natural.

Involving parents in the shoot

We also like to add parents in the shoot too.  We appreciate that this may not be the most confirmable time for mum, but we really are focusing on the newborn, with a hint of mum and dad.  Unless you want to come dressed up for the occasion, which we love to see.

When should I have newborn photography?

At Matthew Rycraft Studios, I always recommend that newborn session shoots are held in the first 14 days after your beautiful baby is born. 

In this timescale it helps me and mum work closely together to pose your baby, in those adorable sleepy or excited positions.  Just like the positions that you see from my newborn gallery. 

All shoots are held in a calm, quiet and relaxed environment within Matthew Rycraft Studios, the award winning premier Liverpool newborn baby photography setting.   I personally oversee the gentle and soft approach to making sure you and your baby are comfortable, relaxed and most importantly in a safe space.

I always encourage parents to have a no obligation consultation with me ahead of the shoot so we can plan it in exquisite detail, letting us capture your bundle of joy in that eye catching pose which will sit pride of place in your home for decades!

Is it worth having a newborn shoot? 

In short…yes! As a family man myself I know what it’s like to have a smartphone camera roll bursting at the seems with photo after photos of my children and family.

We all do it. Snapping away from the moment they’re born and we don’t stop until they’re old enough to hide from the camera! But the reality is while those pictures capture a lovely moment, are they really worthy of a huge canvas print or taking pride of place on your wall at home? For many of these camera roll pictures, the answer is no.
